Magnificent Peace

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17

The beautiful, living Word of God is truly mind-blowing. I love how it comes alive in our hearts as the Holy Spirit reveals God’s Truth to us and how the same words can carry different meanings and revelations in different seasons. This aspect alone makes me feel like I can hear whispers of eternity through its pages. Through one of my personal experiences, the verse from James above took a new meaning.

You see, some years ago, I had the most unfortunate experience in my life, “being in danger“. Whilst in my home and eight months pregnant, one sunny afternoon, three armed men entered our home in a robbery. However, when I was under threat, I was not alone. After speaking the precious Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gift of peace overcame me beyond anything I could describe. Through His grace, I made it through the ordeal without physical harm. Through His peace, my heart and mind were protected, in the time during, and hours thereafter.

But then the nighttime came. I knew that once alone with my thoughts in the dark, I’d have to carefully govern my mind to ensure fear couldn’t enter in. As I lay down, I knew that I didn’t have to be alone and began talking to our Father instead. I had an incredible night of prayer and learnt a great deal.

In one of the visions that the Holy Spirit showed me, I saw myself standing there alone. I felt God telling me that I wasn’t alone but that He was standing behind me. But I couldn’t see Him! I could only see myself standing there with a plain background behind me. I felt I had to “zoom out” to see if I could find Him. I kept zooming and zooming and zooming, but I still only saw myself, incredibly small, with the plain background behind me.

And then it happened, the hit of revelation! The plain background that I saw wasn’t emptiness, but the hem of God’s robe without any folds or even a shadow. At that moment, I understood that He is so big, so enormous, so incredibly massive, that I couldn’t even zoom out far enough to see a shadow of colour change in just His hem! How big is our God! How can we ever feel alone or unprotected when we are so blessed to be called children of the Most High, Lord God Almighty, our King, who is bigger than anything we can imagine!

As you can see, the verse from James suddenly held a more literal meaning to me. Dear Reader, which verses have come alive to you after an experience changed your perspective? Take a moment today, to not only think about how big our God is, but also how magnificently alive His Word is.

“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
