LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD

In a spiritual sense, they are already in the future Kingdom and are no longer citizens of this age but pilgrims passing through looking for a city with eternal foundations. (Hebrews 11:16, 12:22-23).

Jesus prayed, “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”. The actual “Kingdom Age” is future, but we can press into it, take hold of it and live in it by faith. (Matthew 11:12, Philippians 3:14).

SEEKING THE KINGDOM

We are urged by the Lord to “seek first the Kingdom of God”, and all other things will fall into place. (Matthew 6:33). The believer must, therefore, be determined to set their heart on things above and to press against all obstacles towards the coming Kingdom. It is possible, even in this age of darkness, to live in the age to come.

Enoch lived before the flood but saw the Lord coming with ten thousand angels. (Hebrews 11:5, Jude 1:14-15). Jesus said that some of the disciples would not die until they saw the Kingdom of God. (Luke 9:27).

SPIRITUAL PROGRESSION THROUGH THE AGES

There is a spiritual progression through the ages of mankind. It started with innocence, and then conscience was awakened within individuals and society, this developed into understanding right and wrong and God’s Law which brought condemnation and death, but it was given to lead into repentance and truth and open the way for grace to reign in righteousness.

This is what Jesus offered when he said “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”. Through his death he opened the way of forgiveness to all who choose to live in God’s Kingdom.

ENTERING THE KINGDOM THROUGH FAITH

Although the fullness of the Kingdom is still future, we can see and enter it now through faith in Jesus the King. That does not mean we suddenly become wealthy and prosperous in this world’s riches, quite the opposite – it may mean we have to take up the cross and be persecuted, tested and even suffer.

However, we will have the assurance of God’s love and eternal life. (Matthew 10:16-39, 16:24-28).
