Jesus’ Prayer for the Kingdom

Jesus prayed, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,” and said we should pray in the same way. He brought the Kingdom and made it available to all who receive it through repentance and faith. He also prayed for it to prevail on earth.

Christ made it very clear that He would return as King of Kings and one day fully establish His reign on earth. (Matthew 25:31). He foretold that before that happens, there will be a worldwide proclamation of the Gospel to every nation. (Matthew 24:14). He said, “This Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached for a witness to all nations, and then the end shall come.”

The Coming Kingdom

God is even now setting up His Kingdom and preparing people to be part of it. Despite the sin and confusion, it is coming closer every day.

Many centuries ago, the prophet Daniel foretold that a time will come when God will take control of all nations. (Daniel 7:22). The kingdoms of the earth will pass away, and God’s Kingdom will be established forever. (Hebrews 12:28).

This will happen at Christ’s return. That event is drawing near.

The Birth of a New Age

As a woman gives birth, the Bible says that God’s Kingdom will give birth to an age of peace and righteousness. (Isaiah 66:7-19; 30:4-7; 31:35; Revelation 21:2- 22:5). Through the centuries, the Kingdom has grown like an embryo hidden from view, invisible, unnoticed.

There have been times of trial and persecution, and there have been times of great joy as believers “saw” the age to come and leapt for joy, just as a baby does in its mother’s womb. (Luke 1:41).

However, the time for the visible manifestation of God’s Kingdom will surely come. With great expectancy, we wait for it, as have many men and women through the ages.

The Time of Final Travail

The Kingdom is closer now as we enter into the time of final travail of its birth. Out of the suffering and pain of this present age, the birth of the Kingdom of God will come upon earth.

The kingdoms of this world will not improve but will be replaced and make way for the Kingdom of Christ. (Revelation 11:15).

Jesus Will Return

When Jesus lived on earth, Satan tempted Him by offering Him all the kingdoms of the world, which he then controlled, but Jesus refused this counterfeit offer. (Matthew 4:8-9).

He defeated Satan at the cross, rose from the dead, and will return to reign in righteousness over all kingdoms. His Kingdom is far more majestic than anything on earth.

The Majesty of Christ’s Kingdom

When the Queen of Sheba visited Solomon’s glorious kingdom, she said that it was far more splendid than what she had been told. (1 Kings 10:7). This is true of Christ’s Kingdom.

Our minds cannot fully comprehend the things that God has prepared for those who love Him; they are beyond description and more blessed than tongue can tell. (1 Corinthians 2:9).

God’s Offer of the Kingdom

Two thousand years ago, God offered this Kingdom to all who want to be part of it. The offer is still open to you as long as you are willing to receive Jesus as Lord. He came to give abundant life. (John 10:10).

If you are outside of Jesus, you are outside everything that God wants for you—it means you are spiritually lost, a beggar, and the devil has deceived you.

Becoming an Heir to the Kingdom

If you receive Jesus, you become an heir to His Kingdom and all His infinite riches. (Acts 26:18; Romans 8:16-17). If you have never done so before, then respond to God’s offer.

Repent—in other words, recognize your need of Jesus and confess your sins to Him. Open your life to Him and ask Him to enter your heart as Saviour and King. Trust Him to forgive you.

Spiritual Rebirth and Eternal Life

By receiving Him, you will become a child of God and experience spiritual rebirth. You will be born into God’s family and receive eternal life. (John 1:12-13; 3:16-17). You will be fully adopted as God’s own child.

You will also become a citizen of God’s eternal Kingdom. This is not about joining a denomination but receiving Jesus as your Lord.

Receiving God’s Perfect Purpose

It is receiving God’s perfect purpose for your existence and His promise of eternal life in a heavenly home that is beyond your ability right now to imagine.

Repentance is not mentioned much in churches today, but it is the key to everything God wants you to have; no other key opens His Kingdom.
