1. The principle of life in fellowship with God.

2.The principle of the existence of good and evil.

3.The principle of temptation and death.

4.The principle of judgment.

Cain and Able: A Contrast in Offerings

Adam had two sons, Cain and Abel. They both brought offerings to God: Abel brought a lamb and Cain brought fruit from the ground. Cain had worked hard to grow the fruit because the ground had been cursed but Abel just brought a kid.

The one offering represented Cain’s self-effort, the other God’s provision. Abel represented the principle of trusting God, and Cain of rebellion against God, for he knew the ground was cursed. (Genesis 3:17). The lamb was perfect, the fruit was not.

Cain offered self-effort, which represents the way of fallen man and self-grandeur. It is the way of humanity. This is the way of religion, which teaches us that by trying our best, we can improve ourselves and attain the standard we think God wants. It is man trying to reach God, trying to prise open the door and prove our own ability.

The Bible teaches the opposite and declares that all men have fallen short of God’s standards and are hopelessly lost, unable to attain them. It teaches that we are unable to save ourselves: God needs to rescue us.

This teaching is different from all religions. It differs because of the direction. “New Age” teaching is the exaltation of man; Christ’s is the exaltation of God.
